I Is For Incomprehensible

When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lamp stands. And standing in the middle of the lamp stands was someone like the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his chest. His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were flames of fire. His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was like the sun in all its brilliance. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look--I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.” Revelation 1:12-18

I’m not a big scholar or student of Revelation. It’s not that it scares me; I know my salvation is secure. I just don’t understand it all, so I tend to study other books of the Bible more.

Truth be told, in the end times, when Jesus comes again, or when I get called home, I have no literal idea what that will be like. Sure. I have an image in my mind. A vague apparition based on what I’ve read, what I dream about, and yes, even a bit of what I hope it’s going to be like.

But in all reality, “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me sums it up for me. You can read about how Bart came to write the lyrics here.

  2. I haven't heard this one before. As for me, I know that God will take care of me - and that's all that matters.

  3. I love the image- it's quite eerie, isn't it!

  4. I couldn't play the clip here, but the lyrics opened nicely... I used to work with a guy that rammed revelations down my throat all the time... he saw negative end of the world signs everywhere, I used to avoid him a lot. If God wants to take life away from me - so be it, but God blesses sinners too right? So I say live a little while you can - we all find out what to expect once we get there :)
